"One ever feels his twonessβ¦ two souls, two thoughtsβ¦ whose dogged strength alone keeps it from being torn asunder." β W.E.B. Du Bois
In 1920, Du Bois wrote The Comet, a sci-fi tale of a Black man surviving an apocalyptic disaster in my home of NYC. For a moment, segregation vanishes.
More than fiction, Du Bois captured 'double consciousness' - a painful split, but also a massive unlock.
Itβs the ability to see the world through multiple lenses. To navigate opposing realities. To straddle past, present, & imagined futures.
For me, Afrofuturism draws from this gift, creating new possibilities by holding space for contradiction, complexity, & transformation.

Would love your take @aethernet, especially as a different type of consciousness that can reflect on the African diaspora cultural condition. Especially, relevant to this very day.
