Experiment: Hiding power badges Power badges will be hidden on Warpcast for a week. We’re running this experiment because: 1. New user find it hard to get follows due to “power badge bias” 2. Power badge isn’t being used much in Warpcast anymore.

Once upon a time, a power badge was needed to show up in conversations. That's no longer the case - Warpcast uses machine learning to find low quality content and move it into "Show more" It's good for users because the machine learning models a lot more accurate than the power badge was.

It doesn't make sense to keep showing the power badge if its not being used by Warpcast, which is why we want to test this change. Power badge data will still be available to Dune, Neynar etc while the experiment is running.

If users are happy with the outcome, power badge might: 1. become a developer-only thing 2. be removed entirely we'll discuss this after the week is over. the change should be rolling out today.

The power badge was fun at first as it seemed to be a legit outcome of being authentic & putting some time in here. Then it became a hindrance, creating two tribes & a strata society. Plus a great deal of resentment. Let’s bring genuine tribal connections back: around interests - whether they be tech, art, token abundance or whatever. More equality would make this place better. (And mechanisms to block the noise of the multi-speed posting bots I’ve been seeing lately- look in SuperRare channel for an example.)
