This model just requires scale; eventually, I do believe it will be viable here on FC. Topically, it requires good ownership, attentive moderation, and abundant user-generated-content (i.e. the option for users to self-approve membership -> post).

A more important question: what’s the incentive to generate content as a *user? Inclusiveness and being part of a community is only one aspect. I’m seeing people leave because even if they participate and interact with a friend who has posted in a channel, their interaction is not shown. if your community, or friendship circle, interacts with a post, unless they are a member of that channel, the interaction is not shown: ie visual (shown to everyone) and thus shown stats do not reflect actual interactions. People live in community bubbles outside of channel bubbles. Social media is the era of being seen, and ‘likes”….that’s why so many platforms do it, and now people are accustomed: it’s a major incentive for participation.
