Lettuce is a common source of food poisoning. Buy whole lettuce heads and remove the outer leaves at home to lower food poisoning risk. The outer leaves are most prone to bacterial contamination, as are bruised/discolored ones. Discard both. Be sure to wash thoroughly too!
