When working as a lobbyist in NV, my favorite part was the requirement of working together to find common ground. If I opposed a bill, every legislators first question would be if I had informed the sponsor of my concern and if we had met to discuss these concerns. If I said no, I was rebuked. This is how all politics should work. We should strive for understanding and common ground. In the end, I might have still opposed the sponsors bill. But I at least gave them a chance to share their side and perspective. More likely than not, we found agreement and amended the bill in a way that allowed me to support its passage.

Agreed. I think we’ve replaced reason and discourse with noise and entertainment. Actual civil debate is a lost art.
