i read a study about spotify’s revenue (i think this may be first year the broke even?) and came to my own conclusion that spotify is net positive for indie music that otherwise wouldn’t have had distribution bc 3 music labels dominate the space

Hard to quantify that “net positive”

At a high level it’s obviously a massive game changer for distribution. Harder to make a calculation about what it’s done to the financial valuation of music.
