Anyone else starting to get worried about this rise of casual open imperialism? Like, not "peaceful trade at prices social justice activists don't like" imperialism but actual "let's go conquer stuff" imperialism. I know it's "meant to be a joke", but often such jokes are a first step to normalizing something dark...

Im extremely worried.  Its hard to talk about because it feels like there isn’t much we can do.

It’s more the mindset it creates in US citizens.  Looking at Canada like lesser rather than partners.  It’s ugly thinking.

Canada is the US’s largest trade partner - we trade $2B with each other DAILY.  Our economies are integrated - much of Canada’s resources are essential for US industries to function.  This includes resources of strategic importance like energy.

All of this has been built up over 150+ years via trade agreements.  I don’t think Canada necessarily wanted Kamala to win, but after Trump unilaterally threatens to tear up the trade agreement he himself spearheaded, it’s hard to feel anything but disgust

Understand that geographic proximity means a LOT when it comes to potential future regional economies.  We’re not competing with single countries, we are competing with blocks of countries.  Makes sense to have a good relationship with our neighbour to help ensure our standards for the future.  Trump sets this relationship back a lot.

hmm i think the average american, myself included, are ignorant what canada provides to us, but ive never seen them as not an ally regardless of whatever left/right political stuff has been going on

like im sure canada would have loved kamala to win but i dont think we r planning any invasions with trump
