i think it’s masterful distraction strategy that we’re discussing immigrants in Ohio eating pets as some abstract definition of racism instead of focusing on the *actual* issues caused by an unchecked border (national security and debt, employment, healthcare), and i think we’re all foolish to be falling for it.

People don’t get elected on policy, people get elected on brand. In fact if you discuss policy you end up at a disadvantage because your opponent can skewer your policy while revealing nothing of their own. Politics is war and war is deception. It’s going to take a massive cultural shift to change it. We have to have more than 2 parties, we have to change voting systems, and we need to make people actually care.

this is a great (although depressing) take, thanks for sharing it. agree it will take a massive cultural shift to change, and often times it will have to get worse before it gets better.
