I am hoping decentralization leads to smaller ā€œmore localā€ orgs working on problems the contributors are passionate about. Centralized entities have created tons of make-work and depressed employees, all aiming for shareholder value above all else. Decentralization gives us tools to pick away at these large organizations for something new.

How do you see these ā€œlocal orgsā€ interfacing with orgs in those places that have been doing similar work for decades?

Difficult to say without knowing anything about the two, but the hope is that smaller orgs can exist in parallel to larger orgs, and interaction is positive sum. For instance, for a local food bank working with national food program, the food bankā€™s strengths are connection with the community and local workforce. The national programā€™s strength is funding and distribution. Working together they could create a well-resources program which caters to specific local needs.
