New blog: All social apps fall on a spectrum from love to fame, appealing to users’ desire for deeper connection (love) vs. reach (fame). Mature social networks trend toward fame over time, creating an opp. for newer entrants to serve smaller communities: https://li.substack.com/p/love-vs-fame-a-framework-for-social

Thank you for writing this up! Sucks that links get super deboosted on Twitter but had to share there anyway <3 Serving small, focused, intimate experiences is my goal so this speaks very dear to me.

do you think proof-of-first is something that fame can be built around? it’s something we’ve seen flexed on many prev social (as you mention), but do others care who was first?

Great post. I still think Strava remains the example of, in this framework, the most positive love based network, while still offering fame within the communities users are part of. They've also broken free from the ad dependency, via a pay-for-the-tool, stay-for-the-network model. Onchain builders should study it.

these are interesting thoughts to explore Onchain activity could indeed be a bonding agent. If we got rekt on the same token - instant icebreaker to me. Yet the value placed on being "first" seems overrated. It's not about who is early, but who delivers effectively most of the time.

Thank you for the article. I am also thinking what crypto social will be and why we need crypto social. I don't know the answer yet, Maybe people just get bored of the existing social network and need new ones.
