Was asked today: β€œHow do you know what to plant in your garden?” Such a good question. Such a long answer. The short version is, a blend of practicality (environmental conditions), functionality (some to eat, some to serve as divider barriers), effort + personal taste (stuff that’s pretty or smells really nice)

I find that I lean towards growing what I can efficiently cook, store, or preserve. I will plant a maximum of 1-2 plants that I have never grown before. I have in the past been overwhelmed with my yield and have wasted good produce because I wasn't sure what to do with it. If I like to cook it and I know how to preserve it, then that's how I know what to plant!
