IIRC, before Compound released v3, there was exploration into a creating a stablecoin and also making it a multichain protocol.

Why was there a pivot away this?

Before generalized bridge solutions it would have required too many risky custom bridges, and it was deemed too much of a risk to run in prod.

It might work now, was just too early

One of the use cases is a trust minimized bridge between say Bitcoin and Ethereum.

I’m guessing by “risky bridges” you mean a bridge between chains with different consensus.
