Today for some reason I am all about Charles Valentin Alkan, a contemporary of Chopin but because he decided on becoming a recluse and a book worm, the world discovered him only later https://www.classical-music.com/features/composers/charles-valentin-alkan https://youtu.be/KpfKBRDt8Ow?si=s8OKvlDWSpwc5Ce2

First time listening to this Etude. Only knew Le festin d'Esope. Alkan is like the talented pianist that didn't have any marketing team. Music is clearly at a similar level of difficulty as Liszt. It also sounds like it could be even more difficult. What do you think?

Yes Alkan is very very interesting, I only played one etude by him, Allegro Barbaro and it was so satisfying. There is symmetry in his music much more than Chopin or Liszt. As to the technical difficulties I would say more notorious than both. Musically some aspects there is lacking depth compared to Chopin but this is more personal opinion
