2 year old is constantly repeating the same "bad" behaviour We tried being gentle and kind, but doesn't seem to work at all. We also explain the severity of some actions. How do you correct this behaviour?

Your child will behave according to their environment. Try to change your environment to a more calm and subtle energy. NEVER yell or hit them! Re enforce good behavior and calmly ignore fits! I have two grown teenagers and I have never once spanked them and I only need to ever raise my voice oh so slightly to get their attention. Do not cuss at them either. Love and affection will raise a better manner in your children.

I have 2 children (5 & 12). My 12 year old is very difficult (ADHD, dealing with adoption reality, etc.) I was a PE teacher so I have experience dealing with children. I might be able to provide some help but do you want to give more details on "bad" behavior? I only ask because, without context, it is difficult to plan which direction to travel.

I have a 5 years old and a 5 monther. The first one is a girl and the second a boy. I have a feeling, things are quite different between boys and girls, so maybe take that in to mind. I also think, it's very hard to reason with a 2 year old because their understanding of good vs bad, right vs wrong is still developing. It's either want or not... so like other are saying, removing such lures and access to temptation through creating boundaries is more important. For instance, adding a baby gate to said access areas, maybe replacing the locks to harder ones. While reasoning is difficult at this stage, perhaps gradually introduce penalties (that they can understand and why) such as going to the quiet corner or something so they understand there is repercussions to their actions. At this stage though, i would probably just focus on limiting said opportunities rather than teaching. I mean, continue talking and educating your kid (you are doing great), but also set other preventative measures in place.

I do think that a 2 year-old is still too tender to understand some of that explanation, as their emotional skills are still developing. So, continue being gentle and kind, as that's the only thing you can do at this stage. It will work, with patience and understanding.🫂

Redirecting may also help. Have things in the kitchen that are safe and your child can play with and make those more accessible. If they do grab something they shouldn't, you can reinforce what is safe/ok and immediately have something to give them instead.
