This past week was one of the best of my early surfing career. Yet, I’m still having issues with bending too much at my hips and hunching over when turning down the line. Any tips for standing up more and engaging the knees? It feels more stable to bend at the hips sometimes.

Practicing turns on a surf skate is really helpful if you can get your hands on one. Could also try a trick from my snowboarding days - instead of trying to lean, think about touching your knees together and keep your shoulders more upright 🤙

where are you looking in this photo? it always helps me to look down the line where im going and then my body naturally follows, whereas i used to try to force it with my legs. also i’m a newb so take it with a grain of salt! did you get to surf the epic northeast swell recently? where is this?!

If you watch videos of the best surfers, mixed bag of bending at hips vs knees, some are clearly straight back bent knees, common in twin fin and fish surfers for rail weighting distribution and finesse …others bend a lot at the hips as well. Watch clips of who you want to surf like and practice the movements at home
