When it comes to world design, what do you prefer? Open world, linear world or branching linear world? If it was in my hands... I would ban every developer from doing open world games. I can't think of a single game other than Outer Wilds where the open world actually added anything to the game...

Open world is the 'end game', though it won't reach full maturity until AI becomes more useful/integrated in fleshing out stories and/or coding. As of now, games and stories are limited by their human creators. That will change soon and Witcher 3, cyberpunk, etc will never end.

I guess with ai fleshing out the world updating it in real time while you "live" in it could become a thing further into the future. But is that really better than hand crafted stories with clear artistic view and polish? 20 $degen

I'd say no, at least not until the AI can tell stories as well as the humans. No idea how long that'll take though, but once it does, they'll be indistinguishable. Best example I have at the moment is 'the game' that Ender plays at Battle School.

How did I never heard of this saga before? The premise sounds so damn interesting. I really should start reading more NGL, but it's so hard to find time between work and all the other hobbies 🤣. From other media, the game design I fell in love with recently was from the anime Shangri-la frontier. 20 $degen
