😬 If client diversity is so important for ethereum can we get more accurate monitoring tools that are not based on self-reporting and provide confidence on the displayed stats?

An important point made by @izzyp here on why percentage may be off: https://warpcast.com/izzyp/0x46061c9b

the numbers are calculated from extrapolated survey results and then rounded to a whole number because it was decided that it's misleading to display decimals when accuracy isn't necessarily there this is totally normal in statistical reporting. sometimes rounded percentages don't add up to 100

fundamentally, how would you do better than self-reporting? it's a permissionless network--anyone can run a fork of geth that reports itself as "besu" (the alternative i can think of is a Web Integrity API-type scheme but surely nobody wants that)

There's a bunch of different efforts in this direction, but ultimately it's actually a very hard (technical) problem. There's no way to get confidence on the data unless you have control over operator systems (and no one wants that) or you're running everything in a TEE (won't happen from technical+speed perspective).

I wasn’t even aware that these were surveyed results - feels pretty inaccurate for such an important metric?
