I’m contemplating leaving a cushy W2 job to take a serious run at something I’ve been envisioning for a decade, and is now technologically possible. Convince me not to.

recheck all assumptions. if it was a good idea a decade ago, why would it be now? set a "give up" date. and halfway to that date, have a serious conversation if it's worth continuing. stability and your quality of life are more important than they seem, until they are gone.

and re: what others said about 12mo in the bank - that's not enough. double it. do you really want to bottom out at the end? im no longer willing to live my life with less than 12+mo cash on hand, the security it provides me (married no kids) is critical to my wellbeing. so if i wanted to give a startup 12mo of my time, id absolutely insist on having 2y of runway minimum.
