Factorio unironically teaches you to adopt an abundance mindset. The answer is never "make do with less of something". It is always "make more of it" or "make it more efficiently".

I've heard good things DSP. Sometimes if I want something very easy mode I boot up factory town for 5 hours and throw away all my progress after I finish playing

dsp is my favorite factory game to recommend to others! satisfactory is my personal #1 but it's like a much harder drug, much more addictive but also harder to get into, id only recommend it to a fellow junkie, the game doesn't even really start until you're 100h+ deep, whereas DSP is fun from the first minute and a full game takes about 80-120h on the first play thru. lemme know if you have any questions about it, i love preaching DSP gospel! and check out Nilaus on YouTube, he'll elevate your whole flow.

I found satisfactory fun / bearable early game with other ppl, I had a playthrough with my friend a few versions ago over the space of like 3 weeks and finally getting the tube transport was a game changer. I couldn't imagine doing it solo though

when i say it starts at hour 100+ (realistically maybe 50-70h actually), i mean trains change EVERYTHING, suddenly you are building things 50x bigger and planning globally. i had a homie show me the first 2h and been solo from there, i wish i had a crew to roll with; i did one playthru 300h on 0.8 and started a new game in 1.0 that's currently about 150h (but i left it on a few times overnight which i normally don't believe in). im using 1/4 of the map and just unlocked nuclear, now my favorite phase begins - mega building architecture, skyline design, and city planning! forgive this dogshit photo, im on vacation and this is all i can find in my camera rn.

related tangent tho - recently my buddy and i discovered a mod that exports all your satisfactory stats into prometheus + grafana, so when i get back from vacation, im about to setup a permanent 24x7 dedicated server, add production-grade observability and alerting, and turn it into a real nerdcore devops fantasyland, ive been fully errect for 3 days straight just thinking about it, it's combining my work and hobby and gaming in absurd ways beyond my wildest dreams

This feels like how my friend analyses his iRacing circuit times for faster times and better configs. I love that this exists for games if you're a data nerd. Can't wait for the satisfactory server health checks to wake you up with an alert that your steel production has stopped or something

Now I feel like I'm missing out for only having given Satisfactory a few hours. I dunno, something about being a tiny little human on the ground next to humongous factories make it feel overwhelming. But from your pic, seems like when you get the jetpack and get to hover over it all, it just clicks and feels epic.

it's almost like raking a sand garden, after you get halfway in, the game is 60-40 more about the design and decoration and order than factory efficiency, ill tear down a factory five times just trying to get my plumbing clean and hidden i get overwhelmed sometimes still, looking at my next project and knowing it needs a 5-story building and 12 train stations and i gotta increase power production by 10gw before i even break ground... like half my upcoming plans are gonna take weeks to see thru.... but it's very addictive, extremely satisfying, and you can just break it down into small steps, don't rush towards completion, and spend time making every detail polished and beautiful if you need a buddy to run thru the early game and get it started, id love to help you get your feet wet!

also yes hover pack helps it feel much more manageable, and this pic is from extremely high up (i build hypertube launchers to shoot me across the map, it's the only way to travel in style!)
