I used to think this

Now I think that a single resource can be limited (or slow to renew)

But resources are (nearly) unlimited. We switch to new ones as old ones become scarce 

Muscle -> livestock -> wood -> oil -> coal -> gas -> fission -> solar -> fusion -> something new

Have we ever run out of something?
