Does anyone here spend much time on bluesky? I’m curious how the culture compares, developer ratio, etc.

Bluesky is a brazilian network now, almost 80% of posts are in brazilian portuguse. its also the most active network for president lula, he gets significantly more engagement there than on threads (which has 10x follows)

things need to settle down again to give a clear answer how this impacts user and dev culture

my following feed and Discovery (effectively a FYP) not at all

i used to use a feed that showed the most liked posts of the last 12 hours, but that is pretty much exclusively posts from brazil now, by a factor of 10 for the most liked posts in portuguese vs english

and yeah, i think the story of how bluesky became a brazilian app overnight is hugely underreported, its a big shift how decentralised social networks function

only reason i installed it again - social media without my Brazilian friends is not a life worth living!

For many years Orkut was a top social media in India and Brazil being started by a Google employee and one of the most visited sites in Brazil in 2014.

Interesting observation! The strong Brazilian presence on Bluesky and Lula's high engagement there could signal a new wave of influence in the crypto space.
