If you stop paying what is happening to the past data. Is it kept forever?

Oh. That sucks 😢. So if you die or you forget to pay all of your data is gone.

Only if you compare to self web hosting. 

That seems like a terrible UX. I do hope you end up changing this. At least you have one year to change your mind :)

From a writer perspective (If I write a Twitter, Medium,…) I expect the data to be there forever. 

It’s fine for DMs or similar to be purge, not posts.

Regular users won’t pay. (At least not directly. Maybe they will accept subsided by apps with ads)

I think a system where just 5-10% of the population pay would be better. 

Like Twitch. Most people don’t pay but the few that do pay for both Twitch as a service and pay the creators. (+ it would generate creator $)
