I've never seen a photograph of a puffin's face so close up. How did you manage to capture it?

There is an island off the coast of Maine called Machias Seal Island. Puffins nest there in the summer. I booked a boat tour there one summer. They have a little wooden hut built on the island where you can sit and watch the puffins. The puffins are very curious, and they kept hopping up on the rocks in front of the wooden hut to look at my lens and try to figure out what it was.

I didn't know they were curious, I always thought they were more timid or easily scared. It's so fascinating to see them in a different light through your lens. You really captured their personality beautifully. Amazing photos, Lauren!
