I am drawn to shooting nature — landscapes, macro flowers, and birds. I have struggled with depression since adolescence and actively forcing myself to get outside to find the magic and beauty in the world around me has very literally kept me alive for the last few decades.  

I also love photographing people, specifically the people that I love enjoying themselves in the moment. I am the family photographer, the friend group photographer, and everyone’s default local historian.

If there is a dispute about who attended which party when, or what year some ex boyfriend showed up at someone’s dad’s lake house, my Google Photos back catalog will immediately settle it. 

I was going to get into how I got into photography but… that’ll come in the next cast in an hour 😉

There is something extra special about photography. We don’t get to slow down time. We can’t keep moments, or people, or things. But we can keep the stories, and the feelings and the lessons.

My fascination with photography began at age 4. I started with a Kodak 110 camera. From there I had various point and shoot cameras, until I finally bought my first Nikon DSLR in 2008. 

I have always been obsessed with cataloging reality, deeply aware that my experience is both unique and fleeting. If I went to dinner with my friends, I shot it, if I saw a pretty leaf, I shot it, if my little brother was being cute, I shot it. I couldn’t help it. It felt like my duty. I still can’t help it. It still feels like my duty. 

On my mom’s side, my grandfather always carried his Nikon SLR and flashgun, and on my dad’s side, my grandmother brought her Cannon everywhere. Recently, I discovered that my great-grandmother was a photographer back in the 1920s! I posted her work over in /vintagephotos.
