Was asked today: “How do you know what to plant in your garden?”

Such a good question. Such a long answer. The short version is, a blend of practicality (environmental conditions), functionality (some to eat, some to serve as divider barriers), effort + personal taste (stuff that’s pretty or smells really nice)

I always choose a few staples I know I’m good at (tomato, basil), something I’ve always wanted to try, and at least 1 experiment from the store that’s a wildcard
