because 1) distro costs money, and 2) distro is how you make money advertisers pay for commercials companies pay for google ad rankings

who is charging who in your original cast? we all might be getting tripped up by lack of clarity there. I agree with @joneschuk and @ace fwiw, and think YouTube works well because the content creators make $$ from ad views (and aren’t charged $$).
