Also the economics of owning and selling your data just don’t work.

Those with data worth selling don’t need to sell it. 

Those willing to sell don’t have valuable enough data.

I think historically data ownership implied “private and held by you and then sold / disclosed to service providers manually by you”. 

But yes, this new open data is often owned by you, but not on the way that data ownership advocates think.

if its onchain, its a case  of "why not both"

open and accessible to the entire internet, and then you own and control how its presented.

If all the tech companies want your data, owning your own data should be a priority.
