Will Farcaster launch a token? 'One source, who requested anonymity due to the constraints of his business, told me that, like most protocols, he expects that Farcaster will launch a token, and investors will be keen to capture the fully diluted value of it—regardless of whether there is liquidity.'

I wonder what's the purpose. Optimism (Op) and Base (USDC) cover the majority of possible use cases on the protocol level. Degen and thousands of culture/social/channel tokens launching every day cover "financial incentive" part too. kind of this: https://warpcast.com/dwr.eth/0x4435c618

There are many decisions to make on Farcaster. So even as a referendum/governance token, it could be useful.

here's a degenerate thought: channels are more persistent subjects than casts are objects, and both are more ephemeral than a nft snapshot. maybe a client gains PMF by gamifying /techarchive as far as token offering, I don't think it's wise w/o a dedicated cfmm. frankly, I don't think it should even be an ERC-20. just that standard, alone, invites all the "KOL" adherents & grifters. instead, there are multi-token standards (e.g. 6909) that provide many pivots, and much more sophisticated mechanics (e.g. @hypercerts ). point being that the OP question "why valuation w/ DAU" is addressable w/ the right competition & the right IRL flywheel. tokens are great for permissions & claims. there's a nice space for innovating away from uncertainty.
