How do you answer the question  “Where are you from?” 

As an immigrant who lived in a few countries I find it quite confusing. 

I assume that the person wants to quickly understand my language/cultural background, so go with “I’m originally from …, lived in A, B, C and now I live in X.”

I’m in the same boat. Born in one country, citizen of another, studied in a third, and been an expat in two more for the last 15 years.

I usually respond with a quiz question (“I was born in the second-smallest country in the world, guess”) to break the ice and avoid having to tell them my entire life story 😅
