Pet theory I just made up on the spot.

Millennials grew up in a society that appeared to function relatively well, watched it break and now want to fix it.

Zoomers grew up in a broken society, watched the spoils go to the rich, the famous, the callous, and the amoral; now change looks like a lost cause.

So millennials want projects  that change the world and zoomers are content with cynical financial nihilism.
