It’s great that a meaningful response to what is happening in California and the West generally is subject to our country engaging in a completely toxic culture war bullshit discourse. 

Would be easier to pass a law to let drivers ram climate protesters blocking a road than to rally an optimistic, tech forward movement in the country that is remotely serious about the challenges we face. 

Easy to talk about controlled burns, fire dept budgets, but man we don’t even have consensus on warming. Dark days, praying for friends and colleagues facing these horrors.

Everyone's a techno-optimist until they're faced with an event like this.

A very influential moment of my young adult life was trying to care for my dad, who had a terminal lung condition and was on supplemental oxygen, during the Black Saturday bushfires here in Victoria in 2009. 

It's hard to feel confident about the resilience of society when it's 115°F, the air is choked with smoke and the power goes out turning off the oxygen machine that your dad needs to breath.
