It's pretty cool (and spooky) that you can just pay some balloon guys $160 to offset your emissions for a year and none of this is regulated https://makesunsets.com/products/join-the-next-balloon-launch-and-cool-the-planet

Ok but seriously: SRM does not address ocean acidification at all. SRM does very little to address biodiversity collapse whose primary driver is land use change. Arguably biodiversity collapse is the real existential threat to humanity behind CC. SRM at scale puts Termination Shock in play. If we ever stop because of large scale war, terrorism, or economic collapse accumulated C02E with a suddenly diminished heat shield will cause a rapid and dangerous rise in temperatures. Letโ€™s set ourselves up to spin that plate on a stick for the rest of human history. SRM may cause changes to regional climactic patterns & drive mass migration and geopolitical conflict. โ€œYou broke our growing season, weโ€™re going to break your face!โ€ (Or your SRM industry: see Termination Shock). We donโ€™t really know if it will work at scale or what other effects it may have in an extremely complex climate system. The main driver of the End-Permian Extinction Event was massive release of CO2, CH4 & SO2. Sound familiar?
