I’ve been thinking hard on starting a compost bin. Think I’ll start a little smaller. Now do you mix it up once in awhile? If so how often? 2 $DEGEN.

With compost, you want to prevent it from going anaerobic, meaning that the air supply is cut off. It will have a foul stench and bacteria will begin to flourish. You want to turn it frequently to keep it aerobic. I typically do this 1-2 times per week, but depending on various factors it may not be that frequent. A small one is fine, but ideally you want it at least 3 feet at the deepest point. This is so when it heats up, it will basically kill bad bacteria and hasten the decomposition process . Also keep in mind there is a large margin for error in all this! So there is room for experimentation and for making mistakes:)
