I don’t think Farcaster will be very representative but anecdotally the reddit millennial liberal that was anti crypto is very anti AI in the real world though I feel like people are much more neutral

yes the crypto / ai comparison is very clear, its what prompted this poll how come "progressives" are such luddites when it comes to tech? was it always like that? i dont think so? not what i can remember at least its not just crypto and ai, you see a similar patter for space, genetics etc. and ofc startups/yc/sf is a common target too

I actually think Ezra Klein talked about this recently in a podcast, can’t remember exactly where but His idea is that it split sort of around 2016 when people blamed the Trump election (I think actually a traumatic / shocking important moment for libs) on Facebook & Zuck. That set off the whole anti-big tech thing, plus combined with Thiel’s support of Trump and Bernie’s anti-billionaire stuff, made lots of millennial liberals dislike tech Silicon Valley weren’t just hipsters fucking around anymore, they were now swaying elections Then you have Elizabeth Warren going completely anti-crypto, and people focusing on the scams (my brother always seemed concerned about “rug pulls” in crypto despite knowing basically nothing else about it lol), plus climate change etc But yeah I’d mostly attribute to 2016 plus tech no longer being cool culturally basically, and now being associated with the upper class (not entirely wrong)
