tradfi does local p2p payments well. crypto is not 10x better here. most countries have t1 settlement but frankly most people don't even notice that. what crypto does 10x better at is cross-border p2p payments. super high fees and slow settlement. this is a regulatory issue not a technical one though

sometimes building the thing that creates fear is actually a good thing... like letting strangers into your house, or building ai that can unemploy you, or money laundering with privacy preserving internet money leaning into that fear could be your moat

Remittances are a $630B market. I studied the world bank’s remittance matrix and I think there are still a whole lot of untapped remittance corridors particular between the Gulf nations and South Asia, e.g Saudi Arabia <> India.

so the start-up proverb goes that to get over the friction of switching costs, a new product has to be 10x better than an incumbent product. 2x is not enough. so what is 10x in crypto?

the lean startup is the best startup book I've ever read! anyone know other actionable ones? I've read zero to one, the hard thing about hard things, never split the difference, shoe dog etc.

app stores tend to have a low frequency of interactions per user. when was the last time you downloaded an app? also super low engagement, you spend the minimal amount of time to download an app

remember back in the day when every SMS cost money to send? internet messaging abstracted that away does web3 financialising everything bring us back to an older model that we were all used to?

I think some businesses will survive the bear run and others wont and it comes down to how close they are to crypto primitives

Farcaster not having DMs is an interesting way to encourage public discourse. I imagine it has second order effects on strengthening the network

What web3 product could you see yourself/the average user using *daily*, 1-2 years from now? Hard mode: don't mention social, defi, gamefi

don't boil the ocean. scope your problem out. web3 is so early it's tempting to build out the whole ecosystem instead of one product. there are so many interconnected bits that your idea may have dependencies on other ideas. it would be a mistake to build the full interconnected web of ideas. don't boil the ocean.

Building our dapp store im realising that dapps aren't just apps, they are communities too. A dapp store should be just as much a social platform as it is an app distribution platform.

Farcaster feels great because it feels like a high quality sub-dunbar-number-community by default. Right now that's probably because it's invite-only @dwr.eth if you can make Farcaster social circles sub-dunbar-number *opt-out* as it scales, would be v special

VC told me "You're building space boots, but we're not on Mars yet." Hard truth about app-layer Web3 products is we're derivative on the success of crypto as a whole

I think a lot about web3 on mobile, and a trend we're seeing is a every mobile dapp that comes out is also a wallet (axie infinity, stepn, brave). This is just their way of passing App Store regs. (1/2)
