Asking for a friend: why does everybody yell about consumer crypto but still invest in infra and L1, L2, and Lx?

When you are wrong in consumer it’s easier to look stupid to LPs. Very binary in terms of outcome and have to get a bunch wrong. Easier to justify infra & other bets esp bc of historical returns. Even middling bets can be worth something there esp with token prices.

because crypto infra is not yet mature, can improve and the best consumer founders build first to prove (early) traction then fundraise, not the other way around consumer crypto seed valuations also look more like trad tech not crypto infra val - often there is a big mismatch in expectations ^ generalizations ofc

Waiting if a VC will give an honest answer to this one. My assumption is that returns for infra investments have drastically better r/r. Some VCs are even contempt with letting the app layer die and just have a longer infra period with no users.

Consumer investing is really hard but there’s a wider acknowledgment that the space needs consumer apps to work

Because the foundation it s not ready for consumer crypto apps yet, we ll need to attain a minimum 5 layers till real consumer apps
