it's in reference to a treaty in the mid 1500s that ended two    European religious wars (30 years war / 80 years war).

treaty of westphalia is considered to be the start of the modern nation-state system, with nation-states sovereign within their borders, because it established that each ruler had the right to choose the religion within their country without interference.

I actually think this is a great idea and think about it daily
