zora, rodeo and interface all leverage public farcaster data to solve the cold start problem for their own private social networks, with their own follow & comment systems. Follows & comments in these apps aren't published back to farcaster. is this a phase, or a broader indication of the long term incentives around apps leveraging social protocols just for GTM?

I think it's just a tech decision. And we don't have best practices yet. Use FC for social graph, content (solve cold start), auth, message storage, WC as dist channel... Pick and choose. Hard to rely on message storage right now given Hubs. But will be solved in time. And best practices will emerge as some FC adjacent apps start getting good growth.

Hubs syncing has issues periodically and is being actively developed right now from Merkle so there may be changes. Would need some workarounds to get it to work well. So I personally wouldn't rely on it as core functionality of an app, esp since it can be easily stored in any DB.
