I'm not a fan of fiction books.

Fiction relies on made-up characters, plots, and metaphors to explore aspects of reality and human nature.

I find it much more fun to learn the core ideas presented directly.

fiction can reveal high dimensionality truths that are hard to capture in a scientific lens

a book like Crime and Punishment can "teach" you about the psychological damage of a guilty conscience, the limits of rationality, the dangers of isolation and ideology, the need for humility, and the possibility of redemption

it'd be hard to find a single non-fiction book that could deliver all that in a way that you feel it in your stomach

fair but I feel like airport non-fiction slop is just as bad
