An underrated benefit of joining an early stage social media network like Farcaster is the lack of competition. As a creator, you can pick basically any niche — business, fitness, music — and quickly become #1 for that type of content. The big accounts on IG/X today aren’t the best; they were just first.

dan wants to kill this natural development with autofollows, the autofollow really kind of created a weird dynamic where someone could have a large audience overnight without working for it.

Other social networks followed the same playbook? They promoted early accounts like Kevin Rose (Twitter) and Kim K (Insta) because they were early sources of content. Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
