Are you a NODE_ENV= development | production kind of person, or a NODE_ENV= local | stage | production kind of person? Is there a right answer?

I think I'm headed in the direction of relegating NODE_ENV to production or development to specify how I want node to build / execute my app (source maps, logging level) and APP_ENV to trigger conditional environment based logic.

One I think of as the level of "polish", the other the environment "configuration".
