onchain is never down

genuine question: but what if the internet is down? like what if there is no connectivity, then you can't technically be "onchain" right?

i think about this more than i want to admit

yeah this is very misleading. crypto payments still require "systems" that could be down even if the internet and the chain are on. 

case in point, I bet the POS was down, not visa. you still need a POS, regardless where you are settling.
