Channel names are not decentralized yet If you registered a channel and then are trying to sell it to someone who has built a brand on other platforms with that name, you're squatting. Will be cleaning up both usernames and and channels soon in a batch. If you want a decentralized username, use ENS.

Though ENS still uses ICANN which is not decentralized. HNS or Handshake was aiming to be a truly decentralized naming system but I haven’t heard much from them in a couple of years.

ENS supports ICANN names, but your classic .eth name is categorically decentralized. Have another look at https://docs.ens.domains/learn/protocol
