Moving to part-time with one of our genius engineers so he's on the lookout for a part-time gig elsewhere. He's a senior full-stack engineer with solid experience in Solidity, special skills in data engineering. Wouldn't advertise him out if I didn't need to. Also a veeery likeable person. Full-time as plan B

I'd say in most cases it's the removal of a cap of usage. Many free versions have limitations on e.g. the number of free articles I can read per month. It's working because it assumes I like the product and in case I want to use more of it, I'm also willing to pay for it.
