Forgive the finickiness of my mind. Who has tl;dr flows for using Obsidian? (most important needs) - daily notes page (how do you use it) - thought structures (folder or file setup) - referencing or backlinks (how do you use it) cc: @kepano @laura

I use the following note types in Obsidian: - Daily notes - Quick capture notes (zettel format) - Evergreen notes - Clippings from web clipper - Reference notes (people, places, books, movies, concepts) Try to be mostly folderless, except for meta stuff like templates

Start the day with a daily note, which aggregates my entries for the day (turn on backlinks in document) I always manually add created date as a link to my entries because file system dates are not super reliable I use templates heavily to keep metadata consistent across note types and I use in Dataview to aggregate

I use the “unique note creator” core plugin for quick capture in slipbox/zettelkasten fashion Fancy word for just a unique note title that starts with the date. Eg “2022-10-24 Idea about X” Try to make them atomic so that I can reference them easily

I create reference notes for everything I consume or interact with e.g. books, movies, podcasts, shows, travel, products, companies, people These also use templates to keep metadata consistent so that I can aggregate in Dataview I use plugins to help populate the meta data e.g. Book Search plugin

The reference notes usually contain my thoughts/review of the thing with a date (e.g. when I listened to the podcast)

Every few days I revisit what I have created and write a journal entry summarizing my thoughts on the most important things I keep a yearly note (i.e. “2022”) where I try to list the most important notes Once a year I revisit what happened using this framework: https://stephanango.com/40-questions

Occasionally I will block out time for a random walk through my vault I use the random note shortcut and cruise through random notes until I find one that seems interesting to me in the moment, and write my updated thoughts on the topic or add some todos

For tasks my system is very simple. I create a weekly note and list out tasks I want to get done. Every week I create a new note and roll over the tasks I want to keep. I usually do this from memory because I prefer that the less top of mind stuff to drop off the priority list on their own.

I also use the Kanban plugin for bigger more long term projects
