widespread childhood apathy caused by dopamine addiction and algorithmically induced hopelessness real? https://x.com/j00ny369t/status/1900357484545442119?s=46&t=1znVA-6f1LI1qvsp8w99Kg

I dunno seems like a skill issue especially after hearing the "our capitalist society" blame game at the end

Even if so — Kenny — most people can’t even train a dog correctly and you are doubting the fact that many parents could have skill issues

nope totally know many parents have skill issues as they've always had teachers need to adapt, like we all have to

This is the rhetoric that leads to kids getting to Columbia as freshmen not able to read full books. Their teachers have embraced this philosophy of clips and have rendered them unable to hold anything that takes longer than :30 of processing power in their head at one time. They are seeing this in freshmen today. I think it makes for truly retarded kids. And honestly, this may be fine if their only destiny is the factory floor a la American Dynamism reshoring future.

wait why is Columbia accepting kids that can't read full books? also if they are good at their chosen major, pass all the tests, and become successful in the industry of their choice while never reading books...I don't care?

Being good in HS doesn’t mean anything when the grades they got to get to college are inflated. This also is how the Columbia thing happens. College barely means anything either when trying to shove everyone in it means it no longer functions as an effective competency hurdle. It is all done in service of “adapting to the times”. My argument is, if this is what you want education to be, it’s not education, it’s day care. If a person cannot focus to the extent a 60-90min class is too hard, they aren’t capable of advanced ed in the form of book smarts and we should recognize that and direct them to something productive Actual learners are punished by having to sit in school with the tiktokers

well if the high school grades are inflated then it seems like there's a deeper problem in judging performance vs whatever is going on with tiktok? if the administrators are straight up lying instead of giving the kids failing grades then everything is rotten to the core I think school in general probably needs an overhaul when everything about how we access information has radically shifted in the past 50 years it seems a bit silly we still abide by the same learning formats we used in the 1800s

What are they supposed to do when literally every kid is more retarded than they were at the same age, and their parents are like ooo not my baby! my child can do anything, they could never be a total slug! teach the kid as if it were TikTok! Adapt! I know even myself — even I am dumber than I had the potential to be Dire state of affairs where all you can expect at school is to get shot, and most parents are so dumb themselves that it’s hard for me to make the case for homeschooling. National averages show that 54% of adults read at or below the equivalent of a 6th grade level. 1/5 adults read at or below a Level 1, which means they have difficulty understanding any printed material. https://www.thepolicycircle.org/briefs/literacy/ Everyone is so pitiably stupid and on top, I am supposed to believe that these continually more idiotic people are going to build a better future? Give me a fucking break We used to expect things of each other and of kids. In this way perhaps child labor was good, actually

We are not using the same learning formats as the 1800s at all, either. These people are trying to do what you say and change and it just makes a bad situation worse. It’s like a toxic stew of parentless people and lowered or non existent standards
