Unpopular opinion: this is not a problem worth addressing You think “oh waaah Joe Schmoe is deprived the ability to be the next Fred Wilson!!!” as if they would have his deal flow Removing accreditation will just fast track Joe Schmo to bankruptcy https://x.com/saraledterman/status/1497745438241296384

is there any statistical data backing up the idea that people who are accredited make better investments than those who are not?

It’s not that they are better or worse or anything The barriers to the status aren’t so much about “being smart” as it is proving you won’t ruin yourself You can take a test to prove this, or you can just be rich enough that they are like fine, do what you want, you have enough

if you are going to ruin yourself, can't you do that on good old stocks/casino/crypto already? I find the argument "they were just a normal risk averse person until they got into those dangerous VC markets!" a bit ridiculous

I mean i seethe and cope over that stuff too. It’s not right the way gambling is being normalized imo. To me the bigger problem actually is the normalization of gambling + spread of that mentality, that success by hard work is impossible; the only way to win is entering these lotteries

the gambling is a symptom not the root cause tho, no? we live in wildly unequal times and are crushed by entrenched rent seekers at every turn so it's very hard to make a living success by hard work isn't impossible but when the cost of living is outrageous compared to prev generations you can understand the malaise

Income inequality is going down, for the first time in years! https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2023/09/income-inequality.html America is rich af generally too In some part, the vibes are bad bc higher earners have stagnated while the lowest earners are getting more. Meaning higher earners pay more for stuff

I’m a massive fcking doomer who believes in her SOUL there will be no way for me to retire. But America is capitalist and free and ultimately I do believe there’s a way to make it if you want it 🥺

yes I believe same thing anyone can make it if they are fundamentally free but it doesn't change that ppl sense the game is rigged against them and that leads to a general disenchantment that permeates everything income inequality may be slightly down but the broad trend for the average person is awful
