At the end of this podcast, which I had to listen to immediately, founder of the Barkleys Laz talks about the Backyard Ultra He talks about how he loves the format because it gives everyone of all levels a chance to succeed, and go the farthest they’ve ever gone I’ve done one of these before — the loop in question was Prospect Park in NYC. Just like Laz says, it was the farthest I’ve ever gone at that time, and was a ton of fun I didn’t even really realize the full extent of how awesome that was until listening to him talk about the WHY here, and am convinced anew of the format They are relatively easy to organize — the one I participated in was! — and if I ever stop being an itinerant I really want to organize another. If you are part of a big local community give this a look!

ha! I did a solo cycling century in Prospect Park for my 30th birthday (30 laps around the loop). I was proud of doing it all on my own, but it would have been more fun this way.
