I’m coming around to the idea that being “early” or “first” is worthless. There’s still value in provenance even if you don’t end up being the best at whatever you were first to discover or invent. For example: reputation or intellectual property

We all but have destroyed the concept of IP. Gosling and Franklin are forgotten names compared to Crick and Watson.
