Well, I feel most of the “metas” are propagated by venture capitalists themselves, no? 

And the degree to which people need to immerse themselves into hype of the day does seem to be very industry specific. Autonomous vehicles were a huge deal, the whole idea under delivered, they failed to be the meta for many years, and then now that they actually work they are cool again. 
If everyone just followed the “meta” we wouldn’t have autonomous cars. 

I don’t really begrudge anyone for not following that stuff generally. In crypto however everything follows the meta — different
